Savor the Authentic Flavors of General Tso’s Chicken at Home

Ingredients:

1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/4 cup cornstarch
2 cups vegetable oil for frying
1/4 cup chicken broth
1/4 cup soy sauce
3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon sesame oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
2 green onions, sliced diagonally
Cooked rice, for serving

Directions:

In a bowl, mix together beaten egg, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Add chicken pieces and toss to coat.
Place cornstarch in a shallow dish. Dredge chicken pieces in cornstarch until evenly coated.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Fry coated chicken pieces in hot oil until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove chicken from oil and drain on paper towels.
In a separate bowl, whisk together chicken broth, 1/4 cup soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil until smooth.
Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Cook and stir for 30 seconds, or until fragrant.
Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet and cook until thickened, stirring constantly.
Add the fried chicken pieces to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until heated through.
Serve General Tso’s Chicken hot, garnished with sliced green onions, over cooked rice.
