The Best Homemade Chili

Here’s a simple and delicious homemade chili recipe:

Ingredients:

•1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or ground turkey)

•1 large onion, diced

•1 bell pepper, diced

•3 garlic cloves, minced

•1 can (15 oz / 425 g) kidney beans, drained and rinsed

•1 can (15 oz / 425 g) black beans, drained and rinsed

•1 can (28 oz / 800 g) diced tomatoes (with liquid)

•1 can (6 oz / 170 g) tomato paste

•1 cup beef or vegetable broth

•2 tbsp chili powder

•1 tsp cumin

•1 tsp paprika

•1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

•Salt and pepper to taste

•1 tbsp olive oil

Optional Toppings:

•Shredded cheese

•Sour cream

•Chopped cilantro

•Sliced jalapeños

•Tortilla chips

Instructions:

1.Cook the meat: In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.

2.Sauté the vegetables: Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the pot. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft.

3.Add spices: Stir in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes to toast the spices and deepen their flavor.

4.Add the tomatoes and beans: Stir in the diced tomatoes (with their liquid), tomato paste, kidney beans, black beans, and broth. Mix well to combine.

5.Simmer: Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer uncovered for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld together. If the chili gets too thick, you can add a bit more broth or water.

6.Taste and adjust: Taste the chili and adjust the seasoning if needed. Add more salt, pepper, or spices to your liking.

7.Serve: Ladle the chili into bowls and add your favorite toppings.

Enjoy your homemade chili!
